PJ Harvey sings louder and rocks harder here with a few instant classics. "To Bring You My Love" is a haunting ballad with her expressive groan and guitar feedback. String melodies were added on the midtempo "C'mon Billy", "Down by the Water" and "Send His Love to Me". The intensive-rocking one is the wailing "Long Snake Moan" backed by mind-blowing heavy guitars and organ riffs. The album resembles the early 70s, decadent sound of Hendix and the Stones.

I don't think this album has 'fillers'. A filler is something you add to make a decent e.p. become an album. Harvey used to make punk songs before this album, and this time she discovers (dark) ballads and melodies. It's perfectly normal that tunes like "meet ze monsta" appear here, as they are the remaining tracks of her recent past while she steps into future. And it is the juxtaposition of different moods (in an athmosphere that somehow remains consistent and coherent) that gives this album its magic.
