The Pogues still played the traditional instruments and were mixing some Asia and Middle-East elements here. Singer Shane MacGowan still wrote great songs, albeit he was too drunk to sing. The album was rhythmically strong, as described by MacGowan, probably because of having Joe Strummer of The Clash as producer.
