Among the pub rockers of the 70s, Graham Parker and Elvis Costello were the prominent songwriters. Both wrote tuneful angry songs in standard instrumentation. Heat Treatment is an emotionally-intensive album with rock and roll and R&B as base, giving an impression of Parker being the Bruce Springsteen of England and his band The Rumours being The Asbury Jukes of England.
